Building a summer kitchen may seem like an intimidating task. The building techniques have largly been lost to time. See how to do it using modern building materials, making it more realistic for those who know a thing or two about construction. This was our first time ever building anything like this! This style of kitchen is most accurate for 1800-1840. After which only the very poor still didn't own iron cookstoves. After centuries of fireplace cooking cookstoves were slower to be accepted in the county than in cities. Most Americans were still cooking out of hearths until the 1830s & 40s. A kitchen of this size and style would be appropriate for those of the middling to upper classes. Unfortunately, we could not figure out how to install a beehive oven within our 3 month time frame.
