Law and Mental Health: The Forensic Psychologist Business: Considerations for employed, moonlighting

Law and Mental Health: The Forensic Psychologist Business: Considerations for employed, moonlighting, and independent clinicians and researchers -Robert Beattey, PhD, JD, ABPP Elizabeth Battey, MD grew up in California and Texas and later attended the University of California, Los Angeles where she majored in Psychobiology. She developed a strong interest in learning about psychopathology and did research at the UCLA Culture and Minority Mental Health Lab analyzing the relationship between culture and barriers to treatment, and trained under a clinical psychologist to facilitate group cognitive behavioral therapy and mindfulness activities for peers with depression and anxiety. She spent her free time as a DJ for the college radio station and acting in student-run Shakespeare plays. She later attended the Texas A&M College of Medicine in order to pursue a career in psychiatry, and she founded a Psychiatry Interest Group to foster mentorship and community with others pursuing the field. She volunteered at student-run clinics and mentored undergraduate students. For psychiatry residency she was glad to match in sunny New Mexico where she has had the privilege to train alongside likeminded colleagues who feel fulfilled building relationships with others and helping serve an underserved community. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, music, reading, spending time outdoors, and finding the best food in town. Learning Objectives: 1. Identify and analyze risks and mitigation strategies associated with corporate entity selection, forms, and business practices. 2. Apply EPPCC ethical considerations to day-to-day business task from creating forms to drafting reports. 3. Prepare a professional succession plan and describe circumstances where seeking legal counsel is indicated.
