A random commentary on old School Shooters featuring gameplay from Quake (the original) the first of the four realms of quake complete playthrough including the first boss of Quake, who was VERY tough when I first fought him, until I realised all you had to do was activate the 3 runes above him. After that he was a cakewalk. Quake is probably the best example of an old school shooter as it features face paced total nonstop action, waves of enemies, twitchy and incredibly satisfying gunplay/ shooting, a level of difficulty not seen in games today (generally) and of course secret areas. I know this is uploaded very late, but I had a ton of problems not only trying to record Quake, sorting out my fraps (which failed) & buying bandicam (which when I recorded with it the audio didn't work) So it took a long time sorting out all these problems. I had the commentary finished on Saturday, hence I say "this will probably be uploaded on Sunday" LIES! One of the main problems was that bandicam would not record Quake at all first (I think the first quake- steam version- is DoS quake) So I had to open Glquake to record, but the audio was screwed up when recording with bandicam (cutting out every millisecond). I couldn't get fraps to run at over 9fps on any game for the last week for some reason, so I tried a third technique which somehow worked.... I opened fraps & Bandicam simultaniously, thinking I'd capture the sound with Fraps and the video with Bandicam. However somehow opening both and activating both to record Glquake made them both run smoothly at 32fps... this made no sense but I just went with it and recorded the 30 odd minute play session you see on this video... Unfortunatly however that meant that the fps overlay from Bandicam is present throughout this whole video as Fraps recorded that as well... the reason it's so damn big is that the only mode I could get on Glquake was 640x480. I went to the resolution screen to change the resolution to 1024 but it would not move from 640x480 I tried clicking it, using the arrows, w s a d, nothing worked it was simply stuck on 640x480. So this really isn't HD unfortunatly, although it is a game from 1996 so it really doesn't matter as HD didn't exist then... I still rendered/ encoded it at 720p though because it seemed much clearer in HD than in standard definition 360/480p Another problem was uploading this file which somehow turned out at 1.2gb, something that takes my (BT FTL) connection 800 minutes to upload :/ I am at a faster connection for a few days so can upload some bigger files now. :)) Cool Story bro. Anyway... There are quite a number of good shooters coming out in Autumn like Space Marine (I am defiantly getting this) but only 2 old school style (Strictly) for PC Serious Sam 3 BFE and Hard Reset. I talk/ ramble about them as well as Old school shooters in general in this random commentary. Rage is made by iD who where responsible for doom, quake, Wolfenstien, and it seems to have hoards of enemies, but it also has cars and doesn't strictly fit the old school shooter mould (hence I don't talk about it)... which isn't a bad thing of course we need innovation but we should imo use the template of old school shooters like Quake (updated of course) and not the CoD (Call of Duty) template. But Rage looks to be more a Fallout/ Borderlands type game, which is quite, quite different, and good in it's own respect. I said I will probably make a random commentary next week (I don't think I will limit myself to a day anymore- so I can get the best quality video possible- but I'll still try to get 1 random commentary up each week) on games of 2012 (for PC) using Dead Island footage. However having seen some of the videos on Youtube showcasing Dead Island, and reading some reviews which are not as impressive as I was hoping I will probably not be buying Dead Island, so I may use Red Orchestra 2 (out on the 13th September) or something completely different.
