Ontario increases number of GO Train trips from Toronto to Niagara Falls

The commute to the Niagara region is about to get a lot easier as the Ontario government is increasing the number of weekly GO Train trips heading to the area. Starting Saturday, there will be two additional daily roundtrips from Toronto’s Union Station to Niagara Falls on weekdays and one more daily roundtrip on the weekend, for a total of 21 roundtrips per week. This doubles the previous amount of nine trips per week. Premier Doug Ford made the announcement in St. Catharines Friday alongside Tourism Minister Neil Lumsden and Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney. “The expansion of GO Train service between downtown Toronto and Niagara Falls will not only shorten travel times for everyday commuters but will also help promote tourism and economic growth for the entire Niagara region,” Ford said. The province says this will open opportunities for big city commuters, as well as tourists coming to see the falls. Service is also expected to resume this weekend at the St. Catharines GO station, which has been closed for renovations for the past year. The Ford government is adding four additional weekday peak express trips in each direction on the Lakeshore West line, offering more travel options between Hamilton, Burlington and Toronto as well.
