I rented a Canon PowerShot V1 camera (compact camera) for one day, shot snap videos around Shinjuku, and edited them using DaVinci Resolve. I was amazed they managed to fit a 1.4-type sensor into such a compact camera. It fits in a winter coat pocket, and even when carried with a strap, it's not heavy, making it a camera you won't mind taking out. Video settings were recorded at 4:2:2 10-bit with Canon Log 3. Optical image stabilization was set to On, while electronic image stabilization was set to Off. Filmed at 4K 23.98 fps. During filming, shutter speed priority was used (fixed at 1/50), shooting mostly with auto settings. In my experience, image stabilization worked well as long as I stayed still and didn't walk, preventing noticeable camera shake. However, when recording, the first second or so would sometimes show shake from pressing the button or feel unstable. Since the camera is lightweight, you might be tempted to shoot with one hand, but I recommend holding it steady with both hands. I also suggest applying stabilizer processing in DaVinci Resolve. I've applied stabilizer processing to some shots during editing. When it comes to color grading, Canon Log 3 delivers rich footage simply by applying LUTs or boosting contrast in DaVinci Resolve. I'm always amazed at how easily Canon Log 3 adjusts sky highlights, making it effortless to capture snapshots.
