The Quint: Shocked by Pratyusha’s Death, ‘Balika Vadhu’ Fan Commits Suicide

Downhearted over Balika Vadhu lead Pratyusha Bannerjee’s suicide, a 26-year-old woman committed suicide in the suburbs of Raipur on Wednesday, Times of Indiareported. Madhu Mahanand allegedly locked herself in a room with her 2-year-old son and hanged herself. When her husband Nakul returned from work, he forced open the door that was locked from inside to find Madhu dead. Nakul told the police that she was very attached to Anandi’s character which was played by the deceased Pratyusha Bannerjee, who committed suicide on 1 April. He also said that she followed the news very religiously after the actor’s death. Nakul was initially detained by the police, who suspected foul play, but was later allowed to go, after Madhu’s parents corroborated accounts of her fixation with the popular TV show character.
