Climate scientist answers questions about the future of our planet | Curiosities | UTS

What’s the difference between climate change and global warming? Wondering how entrepreneurship can help tackle climate issues, and what actions you can take to make a difference? Professor Chris Turney, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Research at UTS, climate and Earth science researcher, Antarctic explorer, and host of the "Unf*cking the Future" podcast, is answering your curious questions about climate change, tipping points and how we can take action. With over 30 years of research experience across Australia, the UK and New Zealand, Chris has worked with governments, businesses and communities to tackle environmental, industrial and societal challenges. He’s a passionate advocate for universities' role in solving global issues and is dedicated to advancing technologies and policies that lead to a circular economy and net-zero carbon emissions. Chris was a founding director, inventor and scientific advisor to CarbonScape, a cleantech company based in New Zealand, that has developed sustainable, carbon-negative bioengineered graphite for lithium-ion batteries. He also serves as a Non-Executive Director of Cicada, Australia's deep tech innovation incubator, and the NSW Government’s Environment Protection Authority (EPA), working to create a healthier environment for the state. Through his podcast, "Unf*cking the Future," Chris talks with global thought leaders – entrepreneurs, inventors, politicians and activists – about the urgent climate crisis and the practical steps we can all take to make a difference. With more than 250 research publications, over 33,000 citations and numerous awards, Chris’s contributions to climate and Earth science are internationally recognised. He is a Fellow of the Royal Meteorological Society, the Geological Society of London, the Royal Society of New South Wales, the Royal Society of Arts, the Royal Geographical Society and Advance HE.
