You will see from your map that there was a triangular junction of which Berkeley Road Station was the Junction between the Main Line from Gloucester and the Branch Line from Lydney over the Severn Bridge. Further down the Main Line towards Bristol was the South Junction, further down the Branch Line was Loop Junction, the line in question connected these two Junctions as the base of the triangular layout. This part of the triangle was closed first, it allowed trains from Bristol to get to South Wales via Lydney Junction without having to go through Gloucester or running round at Berkeley Road. The line between South Junction and Loop Junction was double track with Signal Boxes at both Junctions, it was only a short line but it could be interesting. It seems that just before the site of the South Junction (Main Line) there is a section completely removed by farming, though the site of the actual Junction can be made out. The site of Loop Junction (Branch Line) is clearly visible but appears to be in the middle of nowhere. At Berkeley Heath the road crosses the former railway line. From here to the Branch Junction the track bed appears complete whilst the track bed towards the South Junction appears complete until the fore mentioned farming. It might be worth a walk but I do not know how much of the former track bed is on private ground. Very often when land was compulsory purchased for the building of railway lines there was a legal clause inserted that if the land was no longer used by the railway it reverted to the previous owners or their successors. Home to the adventurous subscriber. Bi weekly Vlog to keep up to date on the previous and next week’s videos, and a chance for all to air their views on a variety of subjects, why not join in. My passion has been walking, a while ago I was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and walking does not come naturally any more, however the more I walk the easier it gets, for now anyway. I hope these videos will inspire others to keep going and hanging on in there. I try to cover variety of subjects, such as old abandoned railways, and canals. I love the Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire, with its rich history and I usually take my camera whenever we holiday in the southwest and Cornwall. The rugged coastal paths are a magnet for anyone who loves dramatic scenery. I live close to the Cotswolds Hills and have done quite a lot of walking around there, recently, following some of the lovely rivers. Hill walking on the Malvern’s is a challenge but worth the effort. I try not to let Parkinson’s get me down and take every opportunity to get out with my camera and film, I hope you enjoy watching. P.W.
