Celtic-tinged with classic rock roots, “October Skies” is about the sense of home as a place where one’s very bones seem to resonate with the landscape. I wrote it to describe my distant childhood home in the Allegheny foothills, the overwhelming feeling of belonging there when I visit and the absolute surety that I will return someday for good. I went to the village graveyard in my hometown a few years ago to pay my respects to a recently deceased uncle (my father’s brother) and to my own brother buried nearby. I wandered a bit and found myself standing at the foot of much older cenotaph still clearly marked with the name “Warren Russell” – both my name and that of my grandfather’s grandfather who lay there – and the weight of our family history in that place was palpable to me. “October Skies” describes this deep connection I feel to the landscape but it goes beyond that. My second wife Renée, although she has no real connection to those Allegheny foothills beyond her relationship with me, is the truest love of my life but she is fourteen years younger than I. The recurring line “Although so far away I’ll return to them someday … and I’ll stay … but please know before I go, my dear, I love you ever more” speaks of my inevitable death and the fact that I’ll likely leave her behind to live for decades longer after I depart this world and return to those foothills to rejoin my ancestors but that I love her like no other. There is both emotional pain and comfort in that thought for me. Visit https://quicksilvernight.com/presque-vu/ Originally released on May 3rd, 2019, Quicksilver Night’s “Presque Vu” mini–EP is a trio of drivingly melodic songs, progressive but rooted in classic rock with Celtic overtones and Gothic undercurrents. All three songs – “chapters” in this video EP – feature the ringingly crystalline voice of Meagan Finning and the phenomenally evocative guitar stylings of Jason Cale. I am biased, of course, but I thought each of these three songs was full of detailed lyrical imagery that would lend itself well to some striking visual content so I contacted my friend Eli Lev at @levstudio9209 and commissioned these three videos to mark the seventh anniversary of the “Presque Vu” mini-EP’s release. Enjoy! 💖𝐀𝐈 𝐃𝐈𝐒𝐂𝐋𝐀𝐈𝐌𝐄𝐑: ✅ I absolutely do NOT use Artificial Intelligence in ANY capacity to create the music that accompanies these videos. I meticulously craft each song using music notation software, note-by-note, and this digital schematic then becomes the foundation for the addition of live instruments upon which guitars, vocals, and more breathe life into the melodies. I call this “hanging analog flesh on the digital skeleton” but I unequivocally state here that I craft these songs as outlined above, usually with my guitar in my lap, and that these songs are entirely created in my all-too-human brain without the use of any generative AI. – Warren C Russell, Quicksilver Night #progressiverock #classicrock #celticrock #dreamscreenai "October Skies" Lyrics The foothills of my home sing clear, calling to my bones… Fields of darkened loam lie there, waiting for the snows… And although so far away, I’ll return to them someday … and I’ll stay… But please know before I go, my dear, I love you ever more… The hillsides burn so bright, they stay, dancing in my eyes… Lurid autumn light, gold flames coloring the sky… And although so far away, I’ll return to them someday … and I’ll stay… Sure as coldest winter nights give way to warm days in due time… The pine and hardwood stands, above, looking down below Running through my hands, the blood of the river flows And although so far away, I’ll return to them someday … and I’ll stay… But please know before I go, my dear, I love you ever more… I love you, ever more… “Presque Vu” mini-EP song credits Meagan Finning: lead and harmony vocals throughout the EP; Jason Cale: lead solo guitars throughout the EP along with acoustic guitar on “October Skies” and backing vocals on “Presque Vu”; Warren Russell: supporting guitars – including harmony fill guitars on “Presque Vu” – and everything else throughout the EP, real or virtual.
