I'm Director of The Gelb Center, which is located on the Upper East Side of New York City. Today, we're going to talk about TMJ and TMJ disorders. Most individuals who get TMJ are women anywhere from adolescence, high school, and college up until let's say their 50's, around the time of perimenopause and menopause. Some of the common symptoms that these women come into us for would be headaches, neck pain, and fatigue. These women have been to neurologists, they've been on medications, they've had blood tests, they've had MRI scans of the brain, which are all negative. We look at the underlying cause of the problem, which is often musculoskeletal. It's also related to the way they sleep, the way they breathe, and their airway. At The Gelb Center, we take a comprehensive approach and we do everything from cone beamed CT scans. We do a very thorough evaluation, musculoskeletal evaluation. And by working with some of the top specialists in the world who are located in the New York City area, we're able to get to the cause of the pain. We find out whether the pain is coming from the neck, the jaw's muscles, tendons, or ligaments, or from the temporomandibular joint itself.
