Jeffreys Bay’s Marina Martinique is once again in the national spotlight as the Bombela Concession Company South African National Open Water Championships continue this weekend, with the final day of competition set for Sunday, 8 March 2026. The championships, hosted from 6 to 8 March, have brought the country’s top open water swimmers to Kouga for one of the sport’s key events on the national calendar. Speaking at the event today, Michael Canter, President of Nelson Mandela Bay Aquatics and a member of the organizing committee, described Marina Martinique as one of the best open water venues in South Africa. He said this year marks the 10th time the championships have been hosted at the popular Jeffreys Bay venue, underlining its status as a proven setting for high-level competition. Canter said the championships provide an important platform for the country’s top open water swimmers, with more than 209 athletes competing over the three days, including participants from South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Swimming South Africa said ahead of the championships that national titles are on the line in Jeffreys Bay, while junior international qualification opportunities also form part of the weekend’s significance. This adds further importance to an event already drawing strong interest from athletes, coaches and supporters.
