Security at hotel STORYLINE: Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf, in India for a visit that mixes cricket with diplomacy, said on Saturday he brought with him "a message of peace," and the hope that the nuclear-armed rivals could end decades of suspicion and antagonism. In a statement issued after landing in New Delhi, he called his trip a "unique opportunity to address all our bilateral issues, including the Jammu-Kashmir dispute." While this visit was scheduled so Musharraf could attend a cricket match on Sunday, it is his meetings with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, other top Indian officials and Kashmiri separatist leaders where attention is focused. Musharraf met on Saturday with the Indian foreign minister before he headed for dinner with Prime Minister Singh. At the heart of the India-Pakistan dispute is Kashmir, the Himalayan region divided between the two nations but claimed by both. It's expected to be the focus of discussions between Musharraf and Prime Minister Singh on Sunday. Musharraf last visited India in 2001 for a summit with then-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, but the two leaders failed to reach any agreements and the talks ended badly. Officials from both countries have been careful to keep expectations low, but the mood Saturday was upbeat. Musharraf, who arrived Saturday afternoon and is expected to leave Monday morning, has a packed agenda: at least three meetings with Singh, talks with leaders of an umbrella group of political parties from Indian-controlled Kashmir and cricket.
