Why do Indie Animated Shows get so much HATE?

One thing i’ve been noticing for the past year or so is that indie animations in particular get a lot of hate online. So why is this? Well the first reason is the fandom. Indie shows live or die based on the support they receive and how big their fandom is. All it takes is a couple events to completely ruin a fandom’s reputation. One example being the amazing digital circus. It was critically acclaimed and instantly spawned a huge fandom, but it got overrun with content farm channels creating slop content for babies because of the pilot’s bright colour scheme and funny characters. This came to the utter dismay of the shows creator gooseworx, who said that the show was meant to appeal to a teenager to young adult demographic. Even till this day alot of people hate the digital circus, writing it off as brainrot content for kids. The second reason is the shows creators. With indie shows it’s easy to put a face to the project so If anything happens to the creator it can impact the public’s perception of the show. These indie creators also aren’t PR trained compared to industry veterans. The primary example of this being vivziepop. Vivziepop has been involved in over a decades worth of online controversy. People will hear about these dramas and it’ll turn them off the media entirely. And lastly it’s to do with how indie shows are written. Traditional animated media is made with profit in mind, and has to appeal to the largest possible demographic. Indie animation isn’t like that. Shows like Helluva Boss or the hazbin hotel pilot especially have a specific writing style and humour. However typically you’ll either love it or hate it. The hazbin pilot especially blew up first and is mocked alot for it’s adult humour and swearing, so alot of people when they hear indie animation they think it’s going to be like that.
