Washington Governor Bob Ferguson criticizes income tax on millionaires, discusses next steps

Washington state Democrats in the House and Senate have introduced a pair of bills to tax the state's highest earners. Senate Bill 6346 and House Bill 2724 would create an income tax for Washingtonians who make more than a million dollars each year at a rate of 9.9%. Now that legislation has been officially proposed, Gov. Bob Ferguson said he cannot support the bill in its current form. “I appreciate the hard work that went into drafting this initial proposal. It’s a good start, but I cannot support it in this form," Ferguson said in a statement. "I have repeatedly insisted that a significant percentage of the revenue generated by the Millionaire’s Tax must go back into the pockets of Washingtonians to make life more affordable. This proposal does not come close to doing that.
