Day 1: Chennai (March 1st) We boarded an early morning flight at 5:15 am and reached Chennai by around 7:40 am. The morning air was warm and welcoming as we checked into our hotel, freshened up, and indulged in a hearty South Indian breakfast. Our first stop was Vivekananda House, the whole experience was top-notch, must-visit. Later, we explored the historic Santhome Cathedral Basilica, Fort St. George, Art Museum, then we headed for lunch. In the afternoon, we visited the beautiful Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Arulmigu Sri Parthasarathyswamy Temple, both showcasing the city’s rich culture and history. By evening, we enjoyed the view of the famous Marina Beach from Chennai Lighthouse. Strolled along the beach accompanied by some snacks. The cool breeze and soft sands made for a perfect introduction to Chennai’s coastal charm. Enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere before heading back to the hotel. Our first night was spent in Chennai, drifting off to sleep with the sound of waves still in our minds. Day 2: Chennai to Mahabalipuram (March 2nd) The next morning, after having breakfast at a local mess, we hit the road towards Mahabalipuram, a scenic 1.5-hour drive from Chennai. In between, we stopped for some time to witness the charm of Marina Beach in the morning. After checking in at our hotel, we began exploring the stunning rock-cut monuments. We visited the Five Rathas, Lighthouse, Mahishasurmardini Cave, Krishna Mandapam, Arjuna’s Penance, Varaha Cave, Ganesh Ratha, Krishna’s Butter Ball, and last but not least the Shore Temple – all mesmerizing and steeped in history. The artistic brilliance of these ancient structures left us awestruck. As evening approached, we spent some time relaxing at Mahabalipuram Beach, enjoying the peaceful sunset and having seafood snacks at Sea Shore Garden, just beside the beach. Dinner was delightful. We spent the night at our Mahabalipuram hotel, resting up for the journey ahead. Day 3: Mahabalipuram to Pondicherry (March 3rd) After waking up, we witnessed a mesmerizing sunrise at Mahabalipuram Beach then took a sea bath. After freshening up and having breakfast, we visited the Indian Sea Shell Museum (it was worth the time, must-visit). A two-hour drive led us to Pondicherry, where the French influence was immediately evident. After checking in, we had lunch at a local restaurant to try local cuisine. After taking a power nap, we wandered through the French Quarter (White Town), appreciating the charming colonial architecture and enjoyed a peaceful walk along Promenade Beach. Snacks were at a quaint French-inspired café, and we spent the night in Pondicherry, eager to explore more the next day. Day 4: Pondicherry (March 4th) Our morning was spent at Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Devasthanam Temple, Aurobindo Ashram, the serene Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, and Auroville, a unique township dedicated to human unity. The Matrimandir, with its golden sphere, was stunning and peaceful. Later, we headed to Pondicherry Museum, Art and Craft Village where we enjoyed 1-1:30 hrs. boating through the mangrove forest. By evening, we browsed the local markets, picking up souvenirs, and enjoying delicious local dishes for dinner. Another peaceful night in Pondicherry, feeling fully relaxed and rejuvenated. Day 5: Pondicherry to Kanchipuram (March 5th) We woke up before the alarm and headed to Promenade Beach to witness a fascinating sunrise. After having breakfast, we went for a short endeavor to Rock Beach (in Rock Beach, we found a cafe named La Café, with outside seating just beside the sea, highly recommended), French War Memorial, and Serenity Beach. After a short break, we left Pondicherry for a 3.5-hour drive to Kanchipuram. Once there, we checked into our hotel and set out to explore the famous temples. The Ekambareswarar Temple, Kamakshi Amman Temple, and Arulmigu Sri Varadharaja Perumal Temple were all architectural marvels, rich in history and devotion. Dinner was a traditional South Indian meal, and we stayed overnight in Kanchipuram. Day 6: Kanchipuram to Chennai (March 6th) The final morning of our trip was spent soaking in the last bits of Kanchipuram’s charm. After a relaxed breakfast and some last-minute sightseeing (Kailasanathar Temple, Kumara Kottam Murugan Temple, Sankara Mutt), we drove back to Chennai, reaching just in time to board our evening flight at 6:15 pm to Kolkata. The trip was a beautiful blend of history, culture, and nature. Each place had its unique charm, leaving us with unforgettable memories. On a sweet note, we ended our trip.
