25th anniversary of S. Korea-China diplomatic ties / 한중수교 25주년 Importance and result of 25 years of Korea-China Diplomatic Relations On August 24th, Korea and China celebrated the 25th anniversary of their diplomatic relations. Korea and China, who had a hostile relationship since the Korean War, made history, as they agreed to having diplomatic relations in 1992. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations, the two countries have made remarkable progress in various fields. One of the biggest achievements is the economic sector. Trade between the two countries, which was about $6.4 billion in 1992, increased to about $2.114 trillion in 2016. In addition, the nations have had an increase of human exchanges, for the pupose of studying abroad, business, medical care, etc., and even more thanks to the 'Hallyu Wave'. The Korea-China diplomatic relations have established a foothold for the growth of Korea and China. Korea-China relations in crisis due to THAAD deployment Since 1992, the two countries held grand ceremonies together, every 5 years, to mark their diplomatic relations. However, this year, the two countries had separate ceremonies. The separate diplomatic events show the relationship of the two countries are now frigid because of the 'THAAD deployment' on the Korean Peninsula. In July 2016, the South Korean government began their final decision on the THAAD deployment, and the rift was created in the Korea-China relationship. China has been opposed to the deployment of the THAAD on the Korean peninsula since its security might be threatened. In February, when the final decision was made on the site where the THAAD was placed, the feelings of rebellion spread in China and the boycott of Korean products took place ... This week, as we look back at the 25 years of Korea-China diplomatic relations, the panels of will try to find solutions and solve the recently strained Korea-China relations. 한중수교 25주년의 의의와 성과 8월 24일, 한국과 중국이 수교 25주년을 맞았다. 한국전쟁 이후 적대적인 관계가 됐던 한국과 중국이 1992년 수교한 건 역사에 한 획을 긋는 사건으로 평가 받는다. 수교 이후 양국은 다방면에서 비약적인 발전을 이뤄냈다. 그 중 가장 큰 성과를 보인 분야는 경제 부문이다. 1992년 64억 달러 정도였던 양국의 교역 규모는 2016년 약 2114억 달러까지 증가했다. 또한 유학, 사업, 의료 등을 목적으로 한 인적 교류와 '한류' 열풍을 바탕으로 한 문화 교류도 크게 늘어났는데... 한중수교는 한국과 중국, 두 나라가 함께 성장할 수 있는 발판을 마련해준, 의미 있는 사건이라 할 수 있다. '사드 배치'로 위기 맞은 한중관계 1992년 수교 후, 5년 단위로 성대하게 수교 기념행사를 치러온 한국과 중국. 그러나 올해는 양국이 기념행사를 따로 치렀다. 따로 치러진 수교 행사는 '한반도 내 사드 배치' 문제로 얼어붙어 버린 양국의 관계를 단적으로 보여준다. 2016년 7월, 한국 정부가 사드 배치를 최종 결정하면서 한중 관계에 위기가 시작됐다. 자국 안보가 위협 받을 수도 있다는 이유로 줄곧 한반도 사드 배치를 반대해온 중국. 그러다 지난 2월, 사드가 배치될 부지까지 최종 결정되자 중국에선 반한 감정이 번져가고 한국산 제품 불매 운동까지 일어났는데... 이번 주 에서는 한중수교 25주년을 맞아 외신기자들과 함께 한중수교의 성과를 돌아보고 최근 경색된 한중관계를 풀어나갈 해결책까지 함께 모색해본다.
