A quick and basic explanation of the math behind the crystallographic rules governing which planes will diffract for face-centered cubic and body-centered cubic structures. Note: structure factors that sum to 0 in the video above are assuming pure substances. For instances where basis atoms are not all the same element and therefore of unequal atomic scattering factor (f), Fhkl may not sum to 0.
