Surjya Sen’s plan was to capture Chittagong’s two main armouries, disable the Telegraph and Telephone Office and railway lines. Railway lines were disrupted so that help could not arrive from Calcutta as the connection would be cut off between Chittagong and Calcutta. After doing this the plan was to assassinate the members of the European Club – military and government officials who were responsible for siding with the British to maintain the Raj. When all the raids ended, the revolutionaries gathered outside the police armoury, where Sen took a military salute, hoisted a national flag, and proclaimed a Provisional Revolutionary Government.
