AAU Is Ruining American Basketball Culture UConn Women’s Head Basketball Coach Geno Auriemma has been outspoken about the current state of American basketball culture for a while now. He has talked about how this generation of players is a lot harder to coach because they have a lot more options to choose from. This is an accurate statement. And this is how every manager in any facet of business feels. Coaches are just late to the party. For the longest, coaches could berate and abuse players with essentially no consequence. This created an environment of fear around these young athletes and many of them were scared to speak up or leave. Now that the NCAA allows immediate transfers and NIL allows players to get paid, athletes are no longer dealing with mistreatment. Most coaches don’t have the training on how to deal with a player as an actual person. And a lot this stems from AAU Basketball.
