Horizon Lecture Series: Voting Security

How safe is your vote? American citizens expect that when they walk into a voting booth and exercise their right to vote for elected officials, their vote - along with the votes of all citizens - will be tallied accurately. The fundamental right to elect lawmakers, from local officials to members of the U.S. Congress, and the nation's President, is part of the bedrock underlying our society. Connecticut is among the few states that have a comprehensive system of election technology checks and balances in place, due to the partnership between the University of Connecticut's VoTeR Center and the Connecticut Secretary of the State. The VoTeR Center investigates electronic voting systems, develops and recommends safe procedures for their usage in elections, and conducts pre and post-election technological audits in all of Connecticut's state-wide elections.
