A team from the Patient Experience Research Centre at Imperial College London explored how older people living with frailty made decisions about their healthcare and the treatment they would want if they became very unwell. They also studied the part families and healthcare professionals played in making healthcare decisions, with, or for, older people living with frailty. Frailty is a medical term used to describe people living with multiple health conditions who are at risk of a hospital admission. Treatment escalation describes the increasing level of care that may be required when someone becomes very unwell (such as admission to hospital or ventilation).
