Biography Growing up in Central Oregon, I came of craft beer age here, and have seen the industry expand. I currently work at Deschutes Brewery in the tasting room and guiding tours, and am a freelance writer that sometimes writes about beer. In terms of public speaking, I taught for a semester at a university in Kansas. I love history, and how we can learn about timelessness within the stories of time. And, of course, I love beer. Description It all started thousands of years ago - beer, bringing people together. Ancient Sumarian texts 6,000-years-old reveal that beer was discovered when grain was harvested, baked, and forgotten in the sun, resulting in spontaneous fermentation. Beer was safer to drink than water, and was an indicator of civilization. It brought people together. And it continues to. This presentation will cover a brief history of beer, how it reflects cultural changes throughout thousands of years of humanity, and how it continues to bring us together as we share life over a pint.
