What does it mean to leave a legacy when your story includes addiction, loss, shame, and survival? In this episode of SHERO Spotlight, titled Leaving A Legacy: Family, Faith, and Forgiveness, we sit down with Sherry Henderson, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, mother of two, and a woman who embodies sacrifice, healing, evolution, revelation, and obtaining. SHERO stands for: S – Sacrifice H – Heal E – Evolve R – Reveal O – Obtain Sherry's story begins in Charlotte, North Carolina. Raised by a brilliant Vietnam Marine veteran father and a devoted Catholic mother, she started life with structure, faith, and opportunity. But over time, addiction entered her household, bringing loss, secrecy, financial instability, and shame. At 16 years old she was emancipated and rose above her struggles, graduating from UNC Chapel Hill and becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. After losing both of her parents, she’s navigating a new chapter—one filled with grief, resilience, and rediscovery. In this deeply honest conversation, Sherry shares: • Growing up with addiction in the home • Being ashamed of her parents and later confronting that shame • Becoming a provider but struggling with nurturing • Caring for her father before his death • Rebuilding a relationship with her mother before her death • How faith in God taught her forgiveness • Why loss can be a renewal • How awareness and acceptance create forward movement • Building a strong generational legacy for her children Sherry explains that forgiveness is not about excusing behavior. It is about understanding that our parents often did the best they could with what they had. This episode is for: • Women healing from family trauma • Adult children of parents with addiction • Anyone navigating shame and generational cycles • Anyone rebuilding after loss • Women of faith seeking renewal Legacy is not perfection. It is resilience. Subscribe to SHERO Spotlight for real conversations with women who turned adversity into purpose.
