Not far from the start of our walk, there was a steady ascent up the Carding Mill Valley to the Lightspout waterfalls. Underfoot was uneven and precarious in places. Once on top the track levels out and joins The Burway Loop Way. It's an ancient track to the highest part of The Mynd, Pole Bank Cross trigg which is open heather moorland. One of the reasons I was keen to return again to this area after 10 years, was to see the wild ponies. I eventually spotted them along the Town Brook Track.
