Ever wonder why some areas still have standing water weeks—or even months—after a storm? In this video, we break down how rainfall affects water levels across our region, including the role of closed basins and rising river levels. Rainfall is the main source of water for all of our lakes, rivers, and aquifers. While much of it evaporates or seeps into the ground, heavy storms can cause water to collect in low-lying areas or flood riverbanks. In closed basins, there's nowhere for water to drain, leaving it to slowly evaporate or soak into the ground—unless high groundwater levels prevent even that. Understanding how water moves across the landscape helps us better manage flooding and water resources across the District. #waterquality #rainfall #waterconservation Learn more at https://www.WaterMatters.org ========================================= Connect with us! ========================================= Facebook: / watermatters IG: / swfwmd LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/swfw... ========================================= Subscribe and Listen to the Water Matters Podcast HERE: ========================================= RSS: https://rss.com/podcasts/water-matter...
