Laparoscopic Splenectomy In Thalassemia Patient | Patient Testimonial | Medicover Hospitals Prachi (17 years old female) was diagnosed with Thalassemia major at the age of 6 months, and she received her first blood transfusion when she was nine months. In her early years, she required a blood transfusion every four to five weeks. Later in the last few years, her blood transfusion requirement had gone up to three times per week. Compounding her problems were a rare blood group O-ve and a massively enlarged spleen causing hypersplenism. She needed a splenectomy. She received preoperative vaccinations and was scheduled for laparoscopic surgery four weeks later. Because of the patient's large spleen and short stature, performing laparoscopic surgery was difficult. She was successfully operated under the guidance of Dr. G B Singh. Almost a foot long, the 1.6-kg spleen was removed. After surgery, The patient recovered well and got discharged on the third day. She is very thankful for the support and care provided by the Hospital staff and showed her heartfelt gratitude to the Doctors. We at Medicover Hospitals work round the clock and are always eager to serve you better, no matter how critical is the condition.
