The Permax wet drum magnetic separator from Multotec combines a drum with a stationary magnet arrangement and a specially-designed counter rotation tank, to deliver increased processing capacity and improved performance with minimal spare part and maintenance requirements. Ideally-suited for dense media separation plants for maximum recovery of magnetic medium at the highest possible density, the Permax magnetic separator optimises the concentration of magnetite iron ore; the removal of magnetite from Heavy Mineral Concentrates; and the removal of magnetic contaminants before flotation or on flotation plant tailing streams. The trash screen, with angled down-runner pipes and stationary magnets, prevents large particles from blocking the shaft. Magnets attract dense medium and the rotating drum transports the attracted medium out of the machine. The scraper blade removes medium from the drum surface and sends it over the discharge lip. A continual fresh feed pushes already attracted medium up and over the discharge lip. The drum rotates around stationary magnets mounted on the shaft. The counter rotation drum direction allows optimal medium recovery and solids capacity. Magnetic flux lines protrude from the drum shell into the medium and help create the magnetic flocculation effect. Ferro-magnetic medium particles create their own magnetic field when entering the MagSep’s magnetic field. Individual particles attract each other to form chains. Chains cross-link and move towards the drum’s surface where the gradient is the strongest. Cross-linked chains densify on the drum’s surface and dewater from where they are transported to the discharge lip. Non-magnetic particulate is removed through underflow allowing clarified water overflow. A permanently fixed jacking spanner allows for the optimum setting of magnet arc height relative to the discharge lip. The primary recovery zone and secondary scavenging zone ensure recovery even under momentary solids overload. The Permax magnetic separator delivers up to 99.99% medium recovery for magnetite and ferrosilicon matter, vertical and horizontal travel for optimised recovery, high volume flow rate up to 160 m³/hr per metre drum width. With a wide range of models to suit various flow rates, Permax magnetic separator clarifies water and enables water savings on drain and rinse screens.
