The AP African American Studies Individual Student Project (ISP) is a major component of the course and the AP Exam. In this video, A Griot’s History breaks down how students select a topic, analyze four related sources, and develop an argument they will later present and defend. The ISP helps students deepen their understanding of African American history while building core disciplinary skills like source analysis, argumentation, and historical reasoning. Teachers support students throughout the process and may include additional written or creative components as part of the course grade. On exam day, students will respond in writing to a question connected to their project during the AP Exam’s free-response section. This video walks you through what to expect, how to prepare, and how to approach the ISP with confidence and clarity to help you think, analyze, and argue like a scholar.
