I needed some speakers for my new editing computer. Instead of settling for boring powered bluetooth speakers, I went all in and picked up these NS-10MX speakers. Have I made a terrible mistake? The NS-10M was a legendary speaker from the 1980s that graced many recording studios as near field monitors. It earned its legendary status not for sounding good - they don’t - but for their unique characteristics that forced recording engineers to hone in on what truly mattered. These monitors will make a poor mix sound absolutely shocking. The rumor is that if a mix sounds great on a pair of NS-10Ms, it will shine on anything. The MX was the final true monitor version, launched in 1993. There was a MT version in 1995 meant for home use, but its different acoustic traits mean it’s not in the same league as its predecessors. By the way, there's absolutely ZERO point in recording speakers and posting it on YouTube. You won't hear what these speakers sound like; instead, you'll hear what YOUR speakers sound like.
