Visit http://www.integra.io/mixd2016 for more info about the symposium. Karen Newman is Founder and Director of BOM (Birmingham Open Media) which opened November 2014. BOM is a gallery and collaborative workspace for art, technology and science, and home to a thriving community of creatives exploring new technologies and DIY science through curiosity-driven research. Previously Karen was Research Fellow (Digital Media) at Coventry University's Centre for Disruptive Media (2013 – 14), Curator at Open Eye Gallery (where she devised the gallery's new programme for it's re-launch in a purpose built space on the Liverpool Waterfront between 2010 - 2012), and Curator at FACT, the UK's leading centre for art and technology (2005 – 2010). Karen was a contributing curator for Liverpool's Capital of Culture programme in 2008, the Liverpool Biennial festival of contemporary art (2006 – 2012) and Abandon Normal Devices festival of new cinema and digital culture in 2009. Her interests include digital activism, open source culture and citizen science.
