Hampi 18 Sugriva's cave, ಸುಗ್ರೀವನ ಗುಹೆ UNESCO world Heritage site Hampi Tourism, Bellary Tourism, Karnataka tourism, temples of Karnataka, ancient temples India, ancient Indian Architecture. Sugreeva's Cave was once the abode of the mythical monkey warrior Sugreeva, a great devotee of Lord Rama. The legend goes that goddess Sita let fall her jewels here when abducted by the demon king Ravana. It is also the place where Lord Rama met Hanuman for the first time. Right opposite the Rishyamuka mountain, across the Tungabhadra is a naturally formed cave by boulders leaning over each other, called as Sugriva’s cave. This was the hideout of Sugriva and his companions, after they were expelled from Kishkindha by the treacherous Vali. Sugriva hid Sita’s jewels here; their markings can be seen on the floor. He presented them to Rama after they befriended each other; Rama burst into tears seeing Sita’s jewels. Seeing Rama’s intense pain of separation from Sita, Sugriva, Hanuman and Jambavan vowed at this spot, to bring Sita back from the captivity of Ravana. Rama and Laxman’s footprints are embedded on a flat sheet of rock outside the cave, while their stone carved deities can be seen inside. The interior of the cave is decorated with beautiful paintings. The cave is quite small and is situated at the edge of a flat rocky area. This flat rocky area is dotted with several carvings of footprints. Notice them carefully. They depict the footprints of Rama and Laxmana. The place is considered highly sacred by the Hindus. google map location:https://goo.gl/maps/Cqic7PjKrztT2EZk6 Guide Manjunath Gowda M: 9448975862 M: 9110279006 Contact me on sudeeshkottikkal@gmail.com
