The Shawnee WARRIOR Who United Warring Tribes to Battle Brutal Invaders - Tecumseh Tecumseh was a Shawnee chief who united Native American tribes in a confederacy to resist the expansion of the United States into their lands. He travelled extensively, giving speeches and urging tribes to join his cause. In 1811, while he was away on one of these trips, his brother, Tenskwatawa, led the Native Americans to a defeat at the Battle of Tippecanoe. Tecumseh returned to find his village in ruins, but he refused to give up. He rallied his remaining followers and helped the British defeat American forces at the Siege of Detroit. In 1813, Tecumseh fought alongside the British at the Battle of the Thames, where he was killed.
