On Sunday 4 October 2020, people and organisations passed the baton across all time zones from east to west to celebrate the power of sport and physical activity in unifying the world during the COVID-19 crisis. National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka (NOC Sri Lanka) was proud to represent Sri Lanka in this global event. The global pandemic brought by COVID-19 has stunned our societies, grassroots sports and health systems, governments and citizens worldwide. Defeating this pandemic is only possible if we stay connected and present a united front. This year, the TAFISA World Walking Day – 24 hours across the globe, invited people to stand together against the global crisis which impacted us all. The new event took place everywhere on Sunday 4 October 2020 from 10am local time, connecting people by creating a wave across the world from east to west and covering all 24 time zones. NOC Sri Lanka organised a half-day event near Kelaniya Temple where approximately 75 sport actors including roller-skaters, athletes, members of the Executive Board and Athlete Commission and staff of the NOC Sri Lanka, sport administrators, and media gathered. The programme commenced with an introductory speech and then the roller-skaters did the baton relay around the temple while others walk around the temple. Following the walk, group-fun activities were organised by the NOC staff and all the participants were awarded a participation certificate. #TAFISA #NOCSriLanka #NOCSL #WorldWalkingDay #Kelaniya #Walk #Peace #Unity #COVID19 #Globe
