Keir Starmer says he stands by his decision to keep Britain out of the initial US-Israeli strikes on Iran, despite public criticism from Donald Trump. He told MPs the UK acted in the national interest and still wants a negotiated solution rather than joining offensive military action. Starmer said the UK later allowed the US to use British bases only for limited defensive purposes after Iranian missile and drone attacks threatened British interests and allies in the region. He insisted Britain will not join offensive strikes. Trump said he was “very disappointed” and accused Starmer of taking too long to approve access to bases such as Diego Garcia.
