Nissan has seen some rough waters over the last few years. No matter what the auto manufacturer does, they never seem to win. A lot of people have already counted Nissan out, claiming they're done for. In today's video I'll provide the shocking truth about the company's DIRE state… Will Nissan recover? I talk through the following points in this video: Honda and Nissan called off their merger Nissan CEO Ivan Espinoza says they need to get their own house in order first before merging. Restructuring manufacturing footprint. Nissan brought in 300 experts to identify means of saving tremendous amounts of money within company. Nissan will issue huge cuts to personnel and plants / production Company to slash another 11K jobs… 7 plants Cut $1.8B expenses from North America alone over next 2 years. 2024-2025 was the worst year since the Japanese had their great economic bubble collapse in the 90s… Brand Lost $4.6B last year! Brand reputation for Nissan is dead! For that reason alone, the Nissan Frontier should be a success…. Naturally Aspirated V6. Solid and simple. But the reputation hamstrung it. Nissan has become the Chrysler of Japan. Why can’t Nissan do what Mazda has done? Lease buy backs were a huge part of the losses, vehicles bought back had lost a lot more value than originally anticipated. They’ve put too many eggs into their leasing and subprime credit lending efforts. So much so, they’ve forgotten how to many good cars. “If it doesn’t sell cars, the car if the customer or make money for the company… they’re going freeze postpone or cancel” (chairman of Nissan North America). Nissan aims to lessen investment in future powertrain and platform building. Focusing on the now. Getting vehicles out the door faster. Most of Nissan’s lineup has fairly small profit margins… so selling quantity is more important. Volume sales… but it’s not happening. CEO problems (4 CEOs in 8 years) lots of people blame Carlos Ghosn for downfall. Huge incentives for dealers to take on volume Nissan offers "stair step" program for selling. Encourage dealers to discount, move metal. If dealers sell 90% of their inventory in their target timeframes, Nissan will incentivize dealers with $350 per unit sold. CVT transmissions burning up at 60-70K miles. Shifting to smaller displacement turbocharged motors… 3 cylinder options that are lackluster. Don’t offer reliability. Unlike Toyota, no conservative or safe Want them to produce cool cars are reasonable price Big Altima Energy. I lived in DC and boy did that car live up to its reputation haha. Two people that drive like total A-holes… 1. Nissan Altima drivers, and 2. - People who wouldn’t afford the V8 version of their car, like the Charger, Mustang, Challenger, Camaro. Nissan GTR and Z are flagships but not what will propel the brand’s profitability. The rest of the Nissan lineup is too bland. People would rather put their money toward the Toyota Supra than a Z. GTRs were sold at huge markups… again helping destroy brand reputation. All of greed. Nissan Rogue and Pathfinder Rockcreek Edition. Reviving the GTR with a new model. Nissan Silvia revival! Nissan market share and stock price is way down… Although Nissan corporate is publicly encouraging their dealers to slash prices to sell inventory, many Nissan dealerships are holding firm. They have a strange level of arrogance to them. As if people aren’t seeing the headlines too. I don’t get it. People often have positive things to say about Nissan but the more they talk, the more you realize it’s because of what Nissan used to be, not because of what they are today. I think Nissan survives this. But with less product line. US sales are doing okay… not around the world. Let me know your thoughts. Do you think Nissan will turn it around? Do you think Nissan and Honda (plus Mitsubishi) will eventually merge once Nissan gets their stuff together?
