"Study Update: Posterior Fossa Decompression With & Without Duraplasty" - David D. Limbrick, MD, PhD

Bobby Jones CSF SEA Board member, Dr. David Limbrick and his incredible network of like-minded neurosurgeons sought to change that. With continuing hands-on assistance from Bobby Jones CSF as a patient partner, Dr. Limbrick and his team began work on a PCORI-funded $2.8 Million RCT to study Chiari and syringomyelia in children. It is the first study of its kind. The goal of the study is to determine whether duraplasty (the surgical technique of cutting into the hard, outer layer of the brain to find underlying problems) was better or worse at relieving symptoms after surgery. In this study update, Dr. Limbrick explains the successes that the study has had so far. Recruitment is all completed, and once the follow-up periods are complete, the study will be ready for statistical analysis and publication. It is very important to Bobby Jones CSF that the results of this study (that so many patients contributed to!) is widely shared to medical professionals and patients and their loved ones. It is our goal that this information is brought to you regularly, and accurately... and that's what we will continue to do! Once the results are ready, we will be sharing them with you and the medical professionals-- because everyone should be involved in the research that concerns them.
