#30 Body Grid (Instructions Below) Hey Youtube! We are Guys With Games ESL/EAL Activities. We share new games every week for you to use in the ESL classroom. Our focus is teaching English in a fun way and sharing games that deliberately make English the main entree, not just a side dish. Today’s Game: In today’s video, Dustin (Canada) teaches us how to do a fun and engaging activity for your ESL Students using very few materials, no prep, and your imagination! Name of the game: Body Grid Materials: Two different coloured markers/chalk Black/whiteboard 📝 Imagination 🌈 Ideal class size: 6-20 Students Instructions: Come to class a few minutes early and draw 6 columns with a space for a header on top of each column. In each of the headers, draw an 'eye', 'hand', 'foot', 'mouth', 'brain', and an 'ear'. Start the game by explaining each body part and what they do. "What do you do with your hand?" "Draw." Then you can give an example and write down the verb 'draw' in the column under the hand. Explain to the students that you want verbs that are associated with each body part. Divide the class into 2 teams, one on the right side of the class, and one on the left side of the class. Team 1, will use one coloured marker, and team 2 will use the other coloured marker. The first two students, one from each team, will write one word in any column, and then pass it to the next student creating a relay race. Let the students write as many words as they can in a fixed amount of time ( or once they start slowing down). The teacher says stop at an appropriate time and the students sit down. First the teacher will look for any spelling mistakes or words that appear twice. If duplicates of the the word appear, keep the one that was written first. Teachers should keep an eye on this while the game is being played. Then the teacher should count how many words in total there are for each team. Give the winning team a star or an appropriate reward for winning. Depending on the class level, I ask each student to conjugate the verbs into a tense they are practising. So I might get the losing team or everyone, to stand up, and each student chooses one word to conjugate. Then I would make everyone stand up again (or perhaps just the losing team) and have them make a sentence with that word. If they haven't learned any verb tenses yet, you can ask each students to simple make a sentence with each word. Want to send us your own video to be featured on our channel?
