In this video, I’m demonstrating step by step, how to knit a German Short Row Shaping heel for a sock using the magic loop method of knitting. I’ll also show you how to close ankle holes that can appear at the side points of the heel, where the heel section joins the upper foot on the main sock, which can happen with and Short Row Heel Style Sock. When I’m using the Magic Loop method of knitting socks and using standard (UK) 4 ply sock yarn, I like to use a size 2.5mm / 80cm length circular needle, but if you are using this method for your own pattern, you’ll need to follow your own patterns “materials” requirements. Yarns Used in the Videos: Purple Striped Sample Sock - Stylecraft, Head Over Heels , 4 ply Sock Yarn. Pink Striped Socks - King Cole - Zig Zag, 4 ply Sock Yarn (Petal). In this video I’m using the Magic Loop method of knitting, but you can equally use Double Pointed Needles (DPNs), using 5 needles, (stitches distributed over 4 needles and 1 working needle), and work across 2 needles for the front of the sock and work across 2 needles for the heel section.
