I helped a buddy of mine take his highly-modified 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO8 to a performance shop today. Skip to the end of the description for clickable time indexes. A friend of mine asked me to help him to take his EVO8 to a local shop to diagnose an idle-surge problem. He asked me to drive it to give my opinion of the car and to see if I had any ideas or suggestions about what the problem might be. I nailed the problem as soon as I turned the key... it was a bad IAC and/or a vacuum leak! We took it to Inline Racing (ILR, Huy Tran) in northwest Houston. ILR diagnosed the main issue (bad IAC) within about an hour. My friend decided to leave the car at the shop to upgrade the engine management system and also to upgrade the fuel system. This shop has a serious reputation for building fast Mitsubishi 4G63's... they have their own track-proven 8-second quarter-mile cars! Wowsa... that's quick! I used my moto-vlogging helmet for this ride, so the camera position and microphone weren't ideal for an in-car POV video. I didn't anticipate driving the car today... otherwise, I would have planned ahead for a better camera situation. Time indexes: 0:00 : Leaving the warehouse and taking a peek at my long-abandoned 650+ HP Mitsubishi rally car 1:18 : First look at the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer EVO problem child... idle issue confirmed 😉 3:03 : Sorry for the camera position... the steering wheel is set higher than I thought 5:26 : 3rd gear blast from 60-95 MPH in under 2.5 sec! She's quick! 7:30 : Cruising slowly in 5th gear, waiting for my buddy to catch up in my Accord 8:21 : 4th gear blast from 60-135 MPH in ~5.5 sec! I don't want to abuse it too much if it has a vacuum leak. 11:45 : Arriving at Inline Racing to leave the car for a diagnosis 13:50 : A look under the hood... check out that exhaust manifold and the HUGE hair dryer! -- QM [email protected] #mitsubishievo #evo8 #4g63
