In his 2025 State of the Union address, President Donald Trump referred to Lesotho as a country "nobody has ever heard of"—then shocked the world by threatening this peaceful African nation with the highest tariff rate in the world. Around the same time, he cut vital U.S. aid programs that provided HIV/AIDS medication in Lesotho. With tensions high, we traveled to this mountainous nation—often called "The Kingdom in the Sky"—unsure of how we'd be received as Americans. What we discovered surprised us.
