Calcarius Lapponicus

It is a vigorous bird, with a thick yellow seed-eating beak. The summer male has a black head and throat, a white eye line, a maroon nape, white underparts, and a heavily striped black-gray back. They occur in wet areas with birch or willow and or overwinter on bare mountains and cultivated land or coasts. Its natural food is insects when it will feed offspring, and seeds otherwise. The birds occur across Arctic Europe and Asia, and across Canada and the northernmost US. In North America, they are known as Lapland Longspur. They are migratory, wintering in the Russian steppes, southern USA and coastal Denmark, and Great Britain.
