Balamuralikrishna gāru over a period of time, has rendered many a times, “appA! rAma bhakti entO” in all its full grandeur, but this particular rendition perceivably stands out as one of his best. This is not my judgement, but those who have witnessed this concert in live and have grown up listening to it over several years have placed the rendition and the whole concert in that “top category”. Those who are going to listen now to the restored and remastered version, can also review the above and share their observations on this 40 years old recording. It will be very interesting to know how one perceives a piece of rendition today which was considered as one of the best! Apart from the merit in rendition, historically this concert of October 1976 in Bangalore also earmarks Balamurali’s first performance after a gap of some years from a self-imposed exile. An event that took place during the concert still holds my amazement and the impression that left on me. A rasika from the audience, in the middle of the concert, walked up to the stage. After seeking permission, he went straight to BMK and decorated him with a golden pendent for the joy and appreciation of his music. The audience who were all ears to BMK’s music and charged with energy got excited seeing a rasikA’s spontaneous response and erupted with boundless joy. Collaborating with my distinguished friends, a recording of the entire concert was put together in the year 2008 and we could revise the same in 2011 on finding a better quality of audio. Now, for the 3rd time in the year 2017, the concert has been revised as our search yielded a much better quality of recording and the know-how to restore the audio and tools available to do so have been also been enhanced. Together with the track of pantuvarALi, I will also upload a track on shankarAbharaNam in full, which has been recovered from a cassette tape recently. This recovery has actually triggered an ambition to revisit all the tracks of the concert for the 3rd revision. I am at an absolute loss for words to adequately express my sincere thanks to all those who have supported in restoration of this historical concert over the time. This rendition is an excerpt from a live concert by held in Bangalore on 12th October 1976. Dr. Balamuralikrishna is accompanied on the violin by Sri. Annavarapu Ramaswamy, mridangam by Sri. Yella Venkateshwara Rao and Sri. H P Ramachar supports by his Khanjira. It would be a delight to hear your reflections and please take time to enjoy.
