Buttonhole Couching Stitch The buttonhole couching stitch uses the buttonhole stitch to couch thread. Or is other words it used the buttonhole stitch to hold thread in place. Start the buttonhole couching stitch by stitching the laid thread. In this example it's the green thread. This can be loose thread or long stitches. Next use a second thread and the buttonhole stitch to stitch over the laid thread. The buttonhole stitches should overlap the laid thread and not stitch through it.
