On the way in the Bergisches Land between Wuppertal, Solingen and Remscheid. True to the motto: Get out of the city and into adventure! Daniel Aßmann surpasses himself and climbs the Müngsten railway bridge, the highest in Germany: It spans the Wupper valley between Remscheid and Solingen at a height of 107 meters. On the way, Daniel Aßmann hears and sees the role played by the power of water in the industrial history of the Bergisches Land. He visits the German Blade Museum in Solingen and the Roentgen Museum in Remscheid, listens to the stories of a historically adept night watchman in idyllic Gräfrath and practices the "parcours" sport in the forest. There is a lot of industrial history around Wuppertal. The Bergisch city triangle of Wuppertal-Solingen-Remscheid is one of the oldest industrial and economic regions in Europe. Wuppertal was once an important textile location. Remscheid and Solingen are the cradle of tool and cutlery production. The proximity to the river Wupper and the high amount of precipitation in the Bergisches Land brought advantages to the region. In the so-called "Kotten", where the knives were made, the grinding machines were operated with the help of water power. Wuppertal is one of the greenest cities in Germany. More than a third of the area consists of parks, gardens and forests. In particular, the surrounding forests invite you to go hiking. In terms of transport, a lot has also been done for cyclists around Wuppertal: former railway lines, on which industrial goods used to be transported, have been converted into cycle paths.
