I’ll Fly Away - Song of the Week 27

I have been hearing the song “I’ll Fly Away” my entire life. It was one of my favorite songs to hear in church growing up. Traditionally in our church it is played on the piano and doesn’t have as much of a bluegrass feel as it does in this video. It is however a great song for bluegrass style instrumentation, and has become somewhat of a bluegrass standard. There are a lot of great versions of this song that you could probably find on YouTube. One of my all time favorites is from the Stanley Brothers. Aside from the picking and singing, I hope the message of the song shines through. Heaven awaits all who are saved and washed by the blood of Jesus Christ one day after this life is over. This week I was joined by a good friend of mine named Landon Ellis. I really enjoyed getting the chance to pick with someone else, as opposed to my normal solo videos. He also plays bass guitar at his home church, and I would consider him one of the best bass guitarists I know. I have always known Landon to be a good musician, but I was very impressed with his singing on this song. I think he did a great job and I hope I can record with him again at some point. On a side note: Please excuse my right eye in this video if it looks a little funny. It was irritated from getting something in it while cutting grass a couple days before filming this video. I hope this song will be a blessing to you and I look forward to next week.
