As if an immovable stage had been built for us humans, as if we were not made of the same stuff.” She concludes the chapter on "Desolation" (Verwüstung) by saying: " We have treated the earth, flora, fauna and atmosphere as dead matter for so long that several species - possibly even our own - now walk this planet as doomed." And finally, in the chapter "Presence" (Gegenwärtigkeit), she appeals and longs for "...a world where we nurture rather than dominate, share rather than exploit, regenerate rather than deplete, and save rather than destroy. Everything we need is there." We are just running out of time. And now even more so, because the current inferno in Ukraine has suddenly moved us back in a way, perhaps "to the beginning of the 20th century".
