Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to allow observers from other Asian nations to monitor a ceasefire along their disputed border. The agreement comes after recent clashes that resulted in casualties and displaced thousands. Malaysia, currently chairing ASEAN, brokered the initial ceasefire that paused fighting between Thai and Cambodian forces last week. However, both sides have since accused each other of violations. The new agreement aims to establish a permanent peace and includes the formation of a combined force from ASEAN members to monitor the border. Cambodia has requested the return of 18 soldiers captured during the conflict, while Thailand has accused Cambodia of deploying additional troops to the contested area.
