After my last upgrade (including the 400W spindle upgrade), my 3018 CNC still couldn't cut Aluminum nicely. There were a lot of vibrations and that also broke my bit. After carefully analyzing the machine, I found that most of the problem came from the linear shafts of the X axis. They are only 10mm diameter and quite long (400mm), not fully supported. Those shaft bend very easily and made the machine all shaky while milling. So I decided to replace the 2 linear shafts on the X axis with 2 fully supported type of rails. At first, I wanted to get 2 of MGN15 rails. THey are very easy to be installed on the 2020 aluminum extrusion bar (only need some m3 drop in nuts and M3 bolts). But with the Corona virus is spreading wide in China, I couldn't wait for them to be delivered. In the end, I got 2 SBR16 rails and a set of 4 linear bearing blocs (SBR16UU) for the total of 30USD. In this video, I showed you the process of installing the rails on the 3018 CNC. At the end of the video, I was able to cut aluminum smoothly with the reasonable parameters.
