This is Dr. David Stoker, board-certified plastic surgeon in Los Angeles. I wanted to talk to you about breast implants and how to choose the right proportions, the right profile of that implant. There are high-profile implants like this, which are narrower in the base and project out farther. There are moderate profile implants that are wider but don't project out as far. And there are even low-profile implants that are wider and flatter than this. If you are a tiny person with a narrow chest wall and you wanted a two or three-cup size increase, big volume, you're going to need a high profile implant that has a narrower base to fit on your chest. Otherwise, that implant is going to expand all the way out into your axilla and not be very natural appearing. If on the other hand, you want a very tiny implant like this 175 cc implant, you don't want an implant that is high profile because it's going to look like a ball if you put that inside. It's not going to be very proportional to the body. It's really key to understand the relationship between the profile of the implant, the proportions between the width and the projection of that implant. If you have a narrower chest, you're probably going to want a higher profile implant, especially if you're going for a larger breast size. If you're doing a breast lift simultaneously, you'll probably want a low-profile implant to give you overall a little bit of fullness but not too concentrated. And if you're somewhere in between, like most patients, you'll probably end up with a moderate plus profile implant to achieve your most natural result.
