Bruce is a myotis macropus who managed to find himself stuck in a garage for a few days. He got himself outside but was too weak to do anything more than hang there and wait to die. In care, he required a lot of fluids and care but he's doing mostly OK. He will be cared for by a specialist micro carer. He's a fishing bat - a myotis macropus. Fishing bats have large feet - they skim the surface of the water and hook up crustaceans and tiny water creatures, then flip them into their tail apron membrane and do the nom noms with gusto. He has gone out of my area and I won't get updates. Good luck little Brucey. Update: Brucey's new carer says he's not great but OK-ish. She has other fishing bats and catches tiny native and introduced mosquito fish from her creek, which form part of the diet of myotis, and puts them in shallow trays for her batties to find and fish. Further update: Brucey was released back from where he was rescued, about 3 months after coming into care.
